Nell’immaginario collettivo il mestiere del gondoliere ha un che di romantico, essenzialmente per il privilegio di portare in gondola gli innamorati lungo i rii di Venezia alla scoperta della città più bella e più romantica del mondo. In realtà è un mestiere duro e faticoso, svolto sempre all’aperto con qualsiasi situazione meteorologica: sole, pioggia, vento, nebbia.... L’autore spera che questo libro venga interpretato come un ringraziamento alla gondola e ai gondolieri, al loro contributo per la sempre maggiore diffusione dell’immagine di Venezia nel mondo.
It is commonly believed that the job of gondolier has something romantic about it, as it essentially implies the privilege of taking lovers on a gondola ride along the canals or rii of one of the most beautiful and romantic cities in the world. Nevertheless, being a gondolier is a hard and tiring job, always carried out in the open, in all weather conditions: sun, rain, wind, fog.... The author hopes that this book will be seen as a thank-you to the gondola and the gondoliers for their contribution to the ever-increasing spread of the image of Venice throughout the world.
